Deputy Foreign Minister attends Human Rights Council Session

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg addressed to high-level segment of the 37th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council which took place on February 28, in Geneva, the Swiss Confederation. 

The Deputy Minister introduced policies and actions to protect and encourage human rights in Mongolia. Specifically,with new Criminal Code entering into force in 2017, Mongolia abolished death penalty utterly, she stressed. The Deputy Minister also reported that Mongolia adopted the revised Law on Combat Domestic Violence, Law on the Elderly and newly adopted Law on Social Welfare Allowance for Single Parents, Law on Youth Development and Law on Offence to upgrade legal environment for protecting rights of children, women and elderly people.  

In compliance with the Parliamentary Regulation on Taking Actions in regard with the 16th Report on State of Human Rights and Freedom in Mongolia, the Government is taking various actions including ensuring right to education for language minorities and children with disabilities and revising Law on Labor and relevant regulations, mentioned the Deputy Minister.

She also noted that 2017-2021 national action plan for implementation of  the Law on Ensuring Gender Equity was approved and is being implemented. It is necessary to pay attention on raising women’s participation in decision-making level and stopping violence against women, underlined Ms.B.Battsetseg.  

Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg concluded her remarks expressing her hope that the member states would partake in the Second Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be hosted in July in Mongolia. 

During her attendance for the high-level session, the Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Mikheil Janelidz, Monaco’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Gilles Tonelli, Turkish Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Yildiz and Slovakia’s State Secretary of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korcok. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and cooperation.
