State Amateur Chess Tournament selects winners

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The State Amateur Chess Tournament which is annually organized under the auspice of the Parliament Speaker selected its winners on January 6 after a two-day final round contest held at State House.

 

Commenced nationwide on November 10, the 7th edition of tournament was conducted through three stages. The first round or soum and district-level tournaments were run on November 10-11 in all soums and districts at the same time. The semi-final or provincial and Ulaanbaatar city’s tournaments were run on December 8-9.

 

A total of 134 amateur players competed in the final round. As a result, A.Zoljargal aged18 from Orkhon aimag won in men’s event, scoring 7.0. He was followed by B.Nasanjargal from Chingeltei district of Ulaanbaatar and G.Munkhsukh from Dornogobi aimag.

 

In women’s tournament 34 people competed, of whom U.Uyanga from Bayanzurkh district of Ulaanbaatar won a gold medal with a score 7.0, followed by G.Ariunbayar /6.5/ from Nalaikh and D.Baasanjargal /6.0/ from Tuv aimag.

 

In addition, B.Duurenbayar and G.Tsegmed were named the best senior chess players. Moreover, leading three men and women players qualified to obtain ‘Candidate Master’ of chess sport.
