Cooperation in transportation sector discussed with Russia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Road and Transportation Development B.Enkh-Amgalan received Mr. V.A.Tokarev, Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Russian Federation on February 21.

During the meeting, Minister B.Enkh-Amgalan noted that the Ulaanbaatar Railway JSC set a record, transporting 25.8 million tons of freight in 2018. The sides expressed their readiness to increase the capacity of Ulaanbaatar Railway, implement renovation and development programs and address urgent issues in the near future.

The parties emphasized the rapid development of bilateral relations and cooperation in the road and transport sector. The Russian side expressed interest in further development of the cooperation and to be involved in the major repairs of the basic structure of the Ulaanbaatar Railway and construction of new railways.

It was agreed to allow discounts on Mongolian freight, including mining products passing through Russia to the third market and pass Mongolian trains on the Russian railway.

The parties also agreed to increase capacity of road and railway border points, get international status for some ports and exchange information on the construction of new border ports.

The sides agreed to discuss and resolve agreed issues at the upcoming Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental committee meeting.
