Mongolian filmmakers participate in Locarno International Film Festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Mongolian filmmakers are participating in the 72nd Locarno International Film Festival, which is being organized in Locarno, Switzerland between August 7 and 17.


Previously, Head of the Open Doors programme of the Locarno Film Festival Sophie Burdon participated in the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival that took place last October, and during a seminar she organized for Mongolian filmmakers she announced that the programme will be supporting Southeast Asia, and Mongolia specifically in 2019-2021.


As for this year’s Locarno Film Festival, the Open Doors programme consisted of three activities: Open Doors Hub, Open Doors Lab and Open Doors Screening with ‘Alsin Udirdlaga (Remote Control)’ (2013) by S.Byamba, ‘Zahia (Letter)’ (2019) and ‘Ulaanbaatarization’ (2017) by U.Zulaa, ‘Ul zayagdagsad (Outliers)’ (2017) by P.Zoljargal and ‘Gaikhamshigt Nisleg (The Wonderful Flight)’ (2016) by L.Bat-Amgalan participating.


In the framework of the international film festival, the Mongolian filmmakers met with Locarno Film Festival President Marco Solari, and Board Member of the Arts Council of Mongolia, producer Ts.Ariunaa attended a roundtable discussion of the Open Doors programme.


Having supported our filmmakers’ participation in the Locarno Film Festival, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has also announced that they will also be supporting the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival, which will take place in October this year.
