New coal briquette plant to be commissioned by September 15

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On August 17, a meeting by corresponding officials from Ulaanbaatar City Municipality was held to discuss 2019-2020 wintering situation, and preparation for wintering of 2020-2021.


The meeting was attended by M.Ganbaatar, Director of ‘Tavan Tolgoi Fuel’ state-run company in charge of manufacturing of the refined coal briquette and provision of coal briquettes to Ger dwelling area residents in Ulaanbaatar city, gave an information on the refined coal briquette production process, volume, and reserves of coal briquette with regard to the preparation for the upcoming winter.


As of August 13, 41,500 tons of refined coal briquette are being stored at 84 warehouses for future consumption. Five new warehouses with a capacity of 1,000 tons each were built in the capital city, informs Ganbaatar. 


A new or second refined coal briquette plant is under construction in Nalaikh District of Ulaanbaatar city. Currently, the plant’s construction as well as infrastructure and equipment works are underway with 70 percent of completion. The new plant is scheduled to be put into full operation by September 15, 2020. 


Six districts of the capital city have been imposed with a ban on raw coal consumption since last year to tackle air pollution. According to Acting Governor of Ulaanbaatar city, J.Batbayasgalan, another three districts on the outer edge of the city, namely, Baganuur, Nalaikh and Bagakhangai districts will designate their raw coal-free zones as a trial as a measure to combat air pollution this year.


It was informed at the meeting that as a wintering preparation concerning refined coal briquette plants, consumption of coal briquettes, chimney and stoves of households will be thoroughly ensured with the help of public-private partnership between August 15 and September 15.
