J.Batbayasgalan appointed as Chairman of Ulaanbaatar’s Citizens’ Representative Khural

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The first meeting of the newly-formed Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar city (local self-government council) is underway today, October 23, with 100 percent attendance of all 45 members. 17.8 percent of total seats are held by female members, and 13 representatives are first-time members. 


The meeting began with presenting the final results of the 2020 elections to the the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar and approving the membership of the new Khural.  


Afterwards, 84.4 percent of representatives voted in favor of appointing J.Batbayasgalan as a Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar, as suggested by the ruling party at the Citizens’ Representative Khural – Mongolian People’s Party. 


Prior to his appointment as the eighth Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar, J.Batbayasgalan had been serving as the First Deputy Governor of Ulaanbaatar city in charge of development policy since 2019, and Acting Governor of Ulaanbaatar city since former Governor S.Amarsaikhan was elected as a parliament member. Batbayasgalan was elected to Ulaanbaatar’s Citizens Representative Khural from Bayangol District, representing the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) as a result of the recent local council elections. 


The MPP, which holds 34 seats at the Khural, has also chosen to propose current member of the parliament D.Sumiyabazar as a Mayor and Governor of Ulaanbaatar city, and Citizens’ Representative Khural is discussing his appointment at this moment, the final decision is expected to be made shortly. 


The meeting also approved 11 members to the Presidium of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar.
