‘Selenge-2021’ joint military exercise wraps up

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The annual Mongolian-Russian joint military exercise - ‘Selenge-2021’, took place between September 24 and October 4 at the 016th Unit of the Mongolian Armed Forces on the occasions of the 100th anniversary of the People's Revolution, the 100th anniversary of the Modern Armed Forces, and the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Russian Federation.
Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene, Minister of Defense G.Saikhanbayar, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces D.Ganzorig, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Mongolia I.K. Azizov, Military and Air Force Attaché of the Russian Federation to Mongolia P.G. Anisov and Deputy Commander of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation M.Ya. Nosulev got acquainted with the exercise on October 4.
During the joint exercise, the Prime Minister stressed the historical significance of the ‘Selenge-2021’ tactical field exercise which was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Moreover, he emphasized that this year's exercise, organized under the theme "Conducting Joint Counter-Terrorism Operation", was a significant step forward in strengthening military friendship and building trust between the two countries' armed forces, preparing for counter-terrorism operations and improving the professional skills of the military personnel.
More than 1,600 Mongolian and Russian personnel with over
300 military equipment and eight MI-24 helicopters were involved in the ‘Selenge-2021’
field exercise. The purpose of the exercise was to expand military cooperation
between the two countries' armed forces, exchange experiences in carrying out joint counter-terrorism operations, and improve management and upskill commanders
and staff in the event of the fight against illegal armed groups.
The joint military exercise was headed by Chief of the Land Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces L.Ontsgoibayar and Deputy Commander of the 36th Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation R.M.Abdulkhadjiev.
According to the Agreement
between the Ministries of Defense of Mongolia and Russia on Military-Technical
Cooperation, the training has been conducted since 2008 on the territories of
the two countries alternately.
