Khuvsgul, January 23, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Tsaatan people are nomadic reindeer herders who live deep in the Taiga of northern Mongolia, tending to their reindeer herds through Mongolia's ever-changing four seasons.

In the West and East Taigas of Tsagaannuur soum, Khuvsgul aimag, more than 200 Tsaatan people are herding 2765 reindeer. A livestock and animal census conducted in 2023 shows that the number of reindeer population in Mongolia reached 2,928, an increase of 388 heads from the previous year.

Reindeer are unique animals that graze on lichens and moss in snowy taiga forests and high mountain peaks during the winter to build up fat reserves. While in the summer, reindeer graze in areas with deciduous or leguminous plants.
