UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy to Support Mongolia's "Human Rights and Technology" Study

Ulaanbaatar, April 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Today, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Innovation and Digital Policy of the Parliament of Mongolia Zoljargal Jargalsaikhan met with United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy Ana Brian Nougrères.


At the meeting, Chairman of the Standing Committee Zoljargal Jargalsaikhan provided an overview of the implementation of several laws, including the Law on Personal Data Protection, the Law on Cybersecurity Law, and the Law on Digital Signature. Mr. Zoljargal also discussed issues related to public surveillance on social media, technology, internet accessibility, and Starlink devices. 


Special Rapporteur Ana Brian Nougrères shared her plans to conduct research and observations on the protection of personal data in Mongolia, focusing on areas such as healthcare information, cybersecurity, monitoring measures, implementation mechanisms, emerging technologies, and the protection of personal data for specific groups. She also expressed commitment to supporting the "Human Rights and Technology" study being conducted by the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, providing necessary feedback. Additionally, she plans to hold a press conference to present her preliminary observations.
