Deputy PM assigns some duties on earthquake prevention

Beginning the meeting, U. Enkhtuvshin, deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Council pointed out "Involvement of citizens, entities and primary units of local administrations is needed in strengthening nationwide system to protect and prevent from disaster.”
The meeting discussed the implementation of actions conducted by MPCEDP in 2017 and a draft plan of actions for 2018 and challenges for rural areas in mitigating earthquake risks.
At the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, National Emergency Management Agency and the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics reported on their operations.
U.Enkhtuvshin scheduled to re-consider the draft plan of next year’s actions as there is a necessity to scrutinize a possibility to reflect required financing for actions in the state budget and other sources.
At the conclusion of the meeting the Deputy PM gave some assignments to the council members, including to continue mapping of sub-divisional seismic hazards, certify buildings, and organize laboratory testing for construction quality in rural areas.
He also obliged to establish unified standards on temporary shelters and gathering points and establish 4-8 broadband seismographic observatories to persistently observe seismic occurrences recorded near Tavantolgoi coal mine, Tsogttsetsii soum of Umnugobi aimag.
