Seven patients to have liver transplant at NCC in 2018

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Seven patients will have liver transplantation surgery at the National Cancer Center of Mongolia in 2018, as the Government allocated MNT 650 million for the surgery.
The National Cancer Center of Mongolia held press conference on January 30 on its first living donor liver transplantation surgery for a patient with liver cancer. At the beginning of the press conference PhD J.Chinburen, General-Director of the NCC said aiming to introduce liver transplant surgery in the NCC, we started to train our doctors in Korea and other countries, establishing agreement on cooperation with Samsung Medical Center since 2011. As a result, the first living donor liver transplant surgery for a patient with liver cancer was successfully performed in the NCC on January 28 and the surgery lasted for 7 hours under control by doctors of the Samsung Medical Center. Conditions of both donor and the recipient are good."

High-cost medical equipment, laboratory capacity is crucial to perform this kind of complex surgery in addition to doctor’s knowledge and skills, he noted.
A total of MNT 79 million and 697 thousand donation has been accumulated in Eleg negt Mongolchuud’ foundation, established in 2016 with aim to purchase required high-cost equipment for liver transplantation.Donations from over 400 organizations and people proved how Mongolians are powerful when we are united, said L.Munkhsaikhan, Executive Director of the Foundation. With funding of MNT 1 billion from capital city budget in addition to the donations, 11 types of equipment has been bought and began to be used in operations.
