Third phase begins for project on reducing air pollution of Ulaanbaatar city

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/.  As according to the memorandum signed between the Government of Mongolia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the first and second phase of the Capacity Development Project for Air Pollution Control in Ulaanbaatar City was implemented in 2009-2017. To implement the third phase of the project, Acting Governor of the Capital City J.Batbayasgalan and Deputy Representative of JICA Eriko Tamura signed a memorandum of cooperation.

In the third phase of the project, briquettes will be produced and supplied to households in ger districts, and the air quality of the area, where the briquettes were supplied, will be compared with the previous air quality index. The officials report that they also plan to continue focusing on the measures that are being taken to reduce mobile sources of pollution as well as the accreditation of water heaters, which were implemented in the previous phases, and support necessary measures that needs to be taken in the capacity development of monitoring in environmental measurement.
