Mongolia works on increasing target goal for reducing greenhouse gas
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A seminar took place on the contribution of Mongolia to the Paris Agreement in aims of redefining the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) with the participation of sectors.
Having signed the
Paris Agreement, the Mongolian Parliament set a goal to reduce its greenhouse
gas emissions by 14 percent by 2030. In the frameworks of the goal, various
measures, projects as well as multilateral and bilateral mechanisms on
supporting renewable energy, measuring greenhouse gas emissions and funding actions
against climate change have been consistently implemented.
With many of the
global countries giving high significance to the implementation of the Paris
Agreement, Mongolia is also taking intensified actions, such as redefining NDC
with the participation of sectors and working to have the long-term plan, which
will be approved in 2020, sent to the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change and implemented in phases for a long term.
The seminar on redefining NDC with the participation of sectors was co-organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). Corresponding officials and climate change experts in the energy and mining sectors attended the seminar, discussing measures to be taken to determine NDC, participation of sectors and necessary support as well as the work plan for 2019.
