Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In collaboration with the Asia and the Pacific regional office of World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the General Authority for Veterinary Services is organizing the 22nd Meeting of National Coordinators of the South-East Asia and China Foot and Mouth Disease (SEACFMD) Campaign and the third East Asia Contact Persons’ Meeting in Ulaanbaatar on June 25-27.

Deputy Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry J.Saule delivered opening remarks at the 22nd meeting, saying “The Law on Animal Health of Mongolia was ratified by the State Great Khural on December 8, 2017 and came into effect on June 1, 2018. With the adoption of the law, major legal and institutional changes have been made to Mongolia’s veterinary sector, creating an opportunity to work independently in the sector, in other words, to operate in compliance with international standards. Under the new law, the General Authority for Veterinary Services was set up. The law outlines many important duties such as protecting animal health, making animal raw materials and products meet veterinary and hygiene requirements, securing public health, and promoting free international trade.”

The participants exchanged information about the global and regional situation of foot and mouth disease and other trans-boundary infectious animal diseases, measures and practices being implemented and economic impact of the disease and shared their opinions on further actions to be taken. Moreover, the meeting is discussing key measures included in SEACFMD Roadmap 2021-2025. Recommendations on the fight against FMD and other transboundary infectious animal diseases will be developed.
