Parliament Speaker addresses Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Speaker of the Mongolian parliament, State Great Khural, on August 20, delivered an address at the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which was hosted online by the Inter-Parliament Union (IPU) in cooperation with the Parliament of Austria and the United Nations between August 19 and 20.
In his address, Speaker underscored the importance of adopting new and fresh working methods by world’s parliaments amidst the COVID-19 pandemic which brought unprecedented challenges around the globe, and that world legislators must work under heightened state of alert and unusual working conditions in the next 12-18 months in response to the pandemic while focusing on the most pressing issues.
The Mongolian Speaker then informed about the ‘Vision – 2050’ long-term policy document, which was approved by the parliament, aiming for the country’s future development on the basis of economic diversification, equal wealth distribution and green growth.
“To successfully implement the targets and goals outlined in the country’s development roadmap until 2050, mid and short-term policy documents are to be finalized, such as ‘Mongolia on the path to growth’ and ‘Government’s action plan for 2020-2024’, and their significance lies in identifying the ‘new normal’ after the pandemic” said the Speaker.
He further continued that the parliament of Mongolia has been directing its efforts to alleviate the negative impacts posed by the pandemic on the country’s social and economic life by adopting the law on COVID-19 prevention in April 2020 and other relevant regulations to maintain economic and financial stability and ensure digital transition of public services, etc.
Speaker Zandanshatar concluded his speech by stressing the necessity to deepen the parliamentarian cooperation and make greater efforts to find sustainable solutions to meet today's needs.
