Minister of Environment and Tourism receives U.S Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On April 11, Minister of Environment and Tourism B.Bat-Erdene received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the US to Mongolia Michael S.Klecheski.


The bilateral cooperation in environment is being developed successfully through the support of the ‘Wildlife and Nature Protection Society’ and the ‘Nature Conservancy’ (TNC) aimed at fighting against the climate change and air pollution and maintaining environment protection, protected area management, sustainable production and consumption. At the outset of the meeting, Minister B.Bat-Erdene expressed willingness to continue fruitful cooperation in the future and carry out substantial works to plant and protect trees, actively participate in the ‘One billion trees’ national movement initiated by the President of Mongolia.


Minister B.Bat-Erdene said that Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the United States U.Batbayar put forth suggestion to the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) to implement project related to the national model for the protection of strictly prohibited area. The project is expected to be discussed in detail during the upcoming meeting between the representatives of ICCF and Ambassador U.Batbayar.


U.S. Ambassador Michael S. Klecheski put forth to join the ‘A call to action on methane’ and asked the Minister to introduce to the Mongolian government a request to join ‘Greening Government’ initiative being implemented as a platform for countries to share best practices and exchange information on making eco-friendly saving.


The sides also agreed to expand cooperation in the areas including the fight against the climate change, environment, tourism, air pollution reduction, aside from organizing relevant events mutually.


The meeting was attended by Head of Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism Sh.Tserendulam and Specialist of the Multilateral Cooperation Department B. Battsetseg.
