President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa Attending COP28
PoliticsUlaanbaatar, December 1, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) commenced today in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
At the invitation of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa is participating in the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) of the United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP 28. Upon arrival at Expo City Dubai Pavilion, President Khurelsukh was greeted by UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.
Heads of state and governments of over 140 countries are taking part in the high-level Meeting of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). The Heads of state and government are aiming to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, including achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, further solidifying the commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, enhancing inclusivity in climate discussions, and collectively addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.
For the United Arab Emirates, the COP28 presidency prioritizes the following key issues:
- Energy Transition: Accelerating the shift towards renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change,
- Land Use Renewal: Promoting sustainable land management practices to enhance carbon sequestration, conserve biodiversity, and improve food security,
- Enhancing Air Pollution Reduction through Food System Transformation: Implementing changes in food production, consumption, and waste management to minimize air pollution emissions,
- Building Consensus for Enhanced Climate Action: Fostering collaboration among all parties to strengthen collective efforts in combating climate change,
- Establishing a Loss and Damage Reduction Fund: Creating a financial mechanism to assist vulnerable countries in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change,
- Comprehensive Assessment of Paris Agreement Implementation: Conducting a thorough evaluation of the progress made towards the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Today, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa will address the Summit, expressing Mongolia's position on combating climate change, desertification, and reducing global warming, and present nationwide policies and activities.
