Economy
Ulaanbaatar, January 23, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Last year, our country exported more than 60 million tons of coal. More than 60 percent of it, or 36.5 million tons, was exported through Gashuunsukhait port alone. The head of the Customs Department in Gashuunsukhait, L. Ganbayar, informed about this during the consultation of the management staff of the Customs Organization.
He mentioned that 44 percent of the reconstruction works at Gashuunsukhait port have been completed. The delay in construction was primarily attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, climatic conditions at the port, and natural disasters.
Construction of the Gashuunsukhait port will be completed in 2024. In this way, the port will operate at full capacity. It will have 10 lanes for coal export, 3 for passengers, and 6 lanes for incoming coal, which will improve the working and living conditions of customs officers. He said that he is working with the confidence that the export of coal will significantly increase in the future, thereby positively impacting the economy of Mongolia.
Last year, the port exported 860,000 tons of copper concentrate, and in 2024, it is committed to exporting at least 40,000 tons of coal and 960,000 tons of copper concentrate.
