Mongolia Co-Hosts Side Event on Infrastructure for Zero Hunger

Ulaanbaatar, July 22, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On July 17, 2024, Mongolia co-hosted a side event titled “Bridging Gaps: Infrastructure’s Role in Achieving Zero Hunger” on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. This event was held in collaboration with Poland, Botswana, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNCTAD, and the World Food Programme.
The high-level delegations, including Jakub Wisniewski, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, participated in the side event. They discussed the role of infrastructure connectivity in ensuring food security and ending hunger and shared policies, activities, and good practices.
B. Chinuukhei, Deputy Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of developing sustainable food production in Mongolia’s agricultural sector. He highlighted the challenges, such as high transportation and infrastructure costs, as well as inadequate investment in development. Mr. Chinuukhei also highlighted national initiatives aimed at addressing these challenges, while urging Landlocked Developing Countries facing similar food security issues to strengthen cooperation through regional and international platforms. Additionally, as Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN Conference on LLDCs, he underscored the importance of infrastructure connectivity improvements in the new program of action on LLDCs for the next decade.
