“Script of the Eternal Sky” Exhibition Held at the Mongolian Art Center for Children’s Creativity
SocietyUlaanbaatar, November 6, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 862nd anniversary of the birth of Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan and the National Pride Day of Mongolia, the annual “Script of the Eternal Sky- 2024” International Exhibition was opened at the Mongolian Art Center for Children’s Creativity (MACCC) under the auspices of the President of Mongolia. During the Opening Ceremony, the organizers, participants, and visitors shared their impressions of the Exhibition.
Lodoiravsal Choimaa, Education, Science, and Technology Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia:
“The “Script of the Eternal Sky” Exhibition, organized annually under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, showcases the development and trends of Mongolian calligraphy and its artistic writing. It is especially notable that each year more young people are engaged in learning and mastering the traditional script. Moreover, due to its internationalization, the scope of the Exhibition has expanded, with the participation of artists from the Republic of Buryatia, the Republic of Kalmykia of the Russian Federation, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. This year’s Exhibition is unique in that we received works from the French Republic. The “Script of the Eternal Sky-2024” included discussions on Mongolian calligraphy, focusing on how to train the next generation of calligraphers and masters of calligraphy and improve future exhibitions.”
Bat-Ireedui Jantsan, Director of the Institute of Language and Literature under the Mongolian Academy of Sciences:
“The main aspect of any nation lies in its language and script. Every Mongolian should learn the millennia-old Mongolian traditional script. As part of the National Program for Mongolian Script and the Law on Mongolian Language, we are ensuring preparatory works for conducting official affairs in dual scripts starting in 2025. Mongolian traditional script is a remarkable aspect of cultural art, as it is easily learnable and aesthetically writable. This year, our Institute of Language and Literature took part in the organization of the Exhibition. As a judge, I observed significant progress in calligraphy and bamboo brush calligraphy. Students from Khuvsgul aimag have actively participated in the event. In my opinion, the involvement of foreign artists interested in Mongolia contributes greatly to expanding the Exhibition and promoting Mongolian traditional script.”
Ganbat Purevee, President of the Union of Mongolian Artists:
“Calligraphy is a unique art form that requires great skill and precision. This year’s “Script of the Eternal Sky” Exhibition has grown significantly in scale, with a larger jury team than in previous years to judge the submissions. The skills of the participants have greatly improved, and the presence of many artists from rural areas and foreign countries was noticeable. Numerous artists from the Union of Mongolian Artists attended the Exhibition. Since the national Mongolian script is the cultural heritage of the Mongols, I believe the Exhibition should be further expanded.”
D.Uranbilig, Director of the MACCC:
The “Script of the Eternal Sky” Exhibition has been organized for its 13th consecutive year. This year, not only children but also professional artists actively participated in the Exhibition. In particular, the quality of work from young participants has notably increased. Moreover, for the first time, 13 large-scale portraits of Chinggis Khaan and his generals have been displayed at the Exhibition.
L. Tuvshinjargal, Director of “Tumen Buteel” LLC:
"In 1996, I enrolled at the University of Language and Civilization named after Luvsanjav Choi. I have been practicing Mongolian calligraphy since 1998 and learned from my teacher T. Jamiyansuren. Initially, I was eager to learn the Mongolian script, but then I discovered the art of calligraphy from my teacher and moved into brush script. I intend to regularly participate in these kinds of competitions. I have successfully participated in the annual “New Snow” Exhibition organized by the Union of Modern Calligraphers, and have won first place. My major work, “Be Like a Sky,” created in 2013, remains my most significant piece. For this exhibition, I submitted my artwork titled “Red,” a piece created using red stamps on a black and white background. This particular design took years of cogitation and multiple attempts. The best version has brought first place. I am pleased to see the growing interest of young people in learning this art form. "
Ts. Tseren-Ochir, a 12th-grade student at the School No. 79 of Ulaanbaatar:
"I have been practicing Mongolian calligraphy for two years. My teacher M. Erdembileg has taught me to use the bamboo brush studiously. Thanks to my teacher, I am thrilled to have won first place in the “Script of the Eternal Sky-2024” Mongolian calligraphy competition with my work “Jangar.” This piece, which measures 175x20 centimeters in size, is designed with a white script on a red background. It takes about three to four days to complete one piece. To make it more high-quality, one should plan the composition in advance and develop writing skills. I won a special prize from the “Script of the Eternal Sky- 2023” with my piece “Key of Wisdom.”
G. Tuyatsetseg, an 8th-grade student at the General Education School in Renchinlkhumbe soum, Khuvsgul aimag:
"Having participated for the first time, I am delighted to have won first place in the “Script of the Eternal Sky” international Mongolian calligraphy competition. For my work, I chose to write a short story “Shuvuun Saaral” by the great writer Natsagdorj Dashdorj, using a bamboo brush. This is my third year practicing with the bamboo brush. I was the only participant from Renchinlkhumbe soum, and ten students participated from Tosontsengel soum, Khuvsgul aimag. Lately, more students are showing interest in learning Mongolian script."
Emujin, a young visitor of the “Script of the Eternal Sky- 2024” from Khuvsgul aimag:
"My name is Emujin. I study in the fifth grade in Tosontsengel soum. I did not participate in the Exhibition because I am not old enough. I came here to see the artwork. My mother and sister taught me Mongolian script, and I can write in it. My sister won an award at the Exhibition."
