Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A diesel particulate filter (DPF) will be installed on 24 public buses in Ulaanbaatar with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) grant.

The device was installed on one bus in 2016-2017 for test and if DPF installation on 24 buses shows good results, the device will be installed on all diesel buses for public transportation in Ulaanbaatar.

“The public buses in use emit significant amount of smoke in the air as they are very old. A memorandum was established on the installation of Japanese made DPF on 24 buses with JICA grant. The DPF removes diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas up to 80 per cent. The filter should be cleaned in every 250 km, while a public bus in Ulaanbaatar runs 200-300 km a day. Therefore we offered to install 3 DPFs on one bus to avoid from bus operation intermission” said Kh.Bulgaa, Deputy Chairman of the Transportation Department of the Capital.

Three DPF installation on one bus is estimated to cost about MNT40 million.
