Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported Monday afternoon that seven of the 17 missing mountaineers had been found dead.
The NEMA in cooperation with its Zavkhan branch and corresponding organizations is conducting a search-and-rescue mission on Otgontenger Mountain (4,008 meters) where 17 mountaineers went missing on Sunday after a snowslide.
Following an emergency meeting of the State Emergency Commission this morning, a reinforcement team led by U.Enkhtuvshin, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of State Emergency Commission flew to Zavkhan aimag.
The NEMA held a press conference around 3pm on October 23, during which the officials confirmed the deaths of seven mountaineers. The search-and-rescue mission began around 6am and found seven bodies by 3.15pm today.
General G.Ariunbuyan, who is working on the site, reported that the bodies had been found at the height of 3,200 meters, suggesting that the mountaineers may have fallen from a cliff.
The rest of the missing mountaineers are feared dead as search operations continue, engaging 111 people, two helicopters and other vehicles. The families of the missing mountaineers have reached Zavkhan aimag.
