Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian Democratic Women’s Association is set to organize a month-long campaign “Let's Protect Children in Cyberspace ” starting January 1st.

Governor of Bayangol District S. Odontuya, Member of Parliament Z. Narantuya held a press conference on the subject. In a survey taken among students in general education schools, 46.1 percent responded that internet browsing exhausts them. 47 percent said that they live in constant fear of discrimination and bullying. Governor S.Odontuya noted cyberspace’s negative impacts of online bullying, defamation, pornography, and negative comments.

She said, “Majority of child related crimes in Mongolia are taking place in cyberspace. Over 1200 incidents occurred in the last five years, related to online bullying, defamation and pornography. To counteract this, we appeal the President of Mongolia, Parliament, government organizations and NGOs to take actions and calling parents for distancing their children from the internet. “

Parliament Member Z. Narantuya said, “There is no law or regulation in Mongolia which determines what online actions should be considered unethical and inappropriate to children, and how to protect them. The time already has come to legislate it. Women in the Parliament will actively participate in this”.
