Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During its regular meeting on May 2, the Cabinet approved to manufacture two electric buses named MON-30 and experiment it in public bus service.
It is possible to manufacture two buses domestically with cost of one import bus. As estimated, the import bus consumes fuel amounted to MNT 4 million in a month whereas MON-30 will consume MNT 820 thousand. It is expected that one of two buses will be handed over by the manufacturers by the time of National Naadam Festival.
The Cabinet expects that manufacturing bus domestically will create job places and reduce expenses. MON-30 electric bus can cover a distance of 300km when it is fully charged while the current bus in operation runs 200km on an average in a day. According to the numbers, Mongolia manufactured 126 electric buses between 2007 and 2017.
Regarding this, Minister of Road and Transport Development J.Bat-Erdene said that it costs USD 400 thousand to import a bus. However, it is estimated that MON-30 bus will be manufactured with cost of USD 195.5 thousand. Also, operational expenses of domestic bus is five times cheaper than import buses. It is significant to reduce air pollution and support domestic manufacturers as well.
