Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry D.Sumiyabazar visited Khuut coal mine, located in Matad soum of Dornod aimag, and got familiarized with operations of ‘Buman Olz’ LLC, a mining license holder of Khuut mine, reported the Press Division of the Ministry on May 8.
Founded in 2007, the 100-percent domestic-invested ‘Buman Olz’ LLC holds exploration license of Khadyn Khudag and mining license of Tsagaan Chuluut, alongside the mining license of Khuut mine.
Last year, the company extracted 126.1 thousand tons of brown coal, of which 93.8 thousand tons of coal was exported to China and 32.13 thousand tons of coal was provided for domestic use.
It was estimated that the mine has 11.1 million tons of proven reserves of coal that can be exploited by the open pit mining. However, a total coal reserve of the mine was identified to be 225 million tons, as a result of last year’s detailed exploration on its three licensed fields. Besides, the company now intends to increase its extractive capacity to 7-10 million tons a year, which will create 170-200 jobs.
‘Tsairt Mineral’ LLC was a final objective of the Minister’s working trip to eastern aimags. ‘Tsairt Mineral’ LLC extracts and concentrate iron ore and zinc for export and runs Tumurtiin-Ovoo project in Baruun-Urt city, Sukhbaatar aimag.
In 1998, Mongolian ‘Metal Impex’ Co.,Ltd and world mining company China Non-ferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co.,Ltd (NFC) established joint venture ‘Tsairt Mineral’ LLC to exploit Tumurtiin-Ovoo zinc deposit.
The Mining Minister saw operations of the open pit and the concentrator plant. Its concentrator plant processes about 400 thousand tons of zinc concentrate annually and exports 100 thousand tons of concentrate with 50 percent zinc content.
The company’s director S.Batkhuu said that the company organized sequential trainings to make all of its workers have professions. It has 371 employees in total, of whom 327 are Mongolians, mostly local Mongolians. In addition, sub-contractors of the company created about 350 jobs.
S.Batkhuu spoke about pressing issues the company is encountering. For instance, the plant has made many stops due to lack of energy and it triggers a decline of the company’s income and the money to be paid to the state budget.
Within social responsibility, the company renders non-refundable assistance worth MNT1.5 billion every year in collaboration with the Sukhbaatar aimag’s administration. The money was spent on equipping intensive care units of the central hospital, establishing a laboratory for screening Hepatitis-B virus, improving the aimag’s infrastructure and developing culture and sports.
