Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold received Kaveh Zahedi, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on July 3. At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on establishing low-carbon eco-city and expanding bilateral ties and cooperation.

Mayor S.Batbold noted, "We are discussing our prombles and cultivating initiatives at international level especially at Northeast Asia aside from local level. Last month, a forum involving 16 city authorities from six Northeast Asian countries was held. It discussed ways to reduce air pollution, improve its quality and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Starting next year,  the capital city residents will be allowed to burn only refined fuel, banning raw coal use under the action on reducing air pollution in cooperation with the Government. Thereby, we are expecting air pollution to be reduced by 45-50 percent"

Mr Kaveh Zahedi "UNESCAP can deepen cooperation with Ulaanbaatar. We are implementing Nexus project and will expand its scope. There are also opportunities to cooperate in developing economy and supporting SMEs. It is a pleasure to express our readiness to cooperate following your initiatives"
