‘Reducing social inequality’ seminar taking place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In frames of UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations Program, 3-day workshop themed ‘Reducing Social Inequality: From Knowledge to Government Policy’ began yesterday, July 17 at the State House.  

 

In her opening remarks, Head of Standing Committee on Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science, MP D.Oyunkhorol noted that the factors we are determining would help creating psychologically sustainable and healthy society that has low stress and violence, trustful relations between the people and opportunity for youths to acquire quality education. "Draft laws should be developed based on researches and proofs as well as results of scientific works should be reflected in government policies. Therefore, the Parliament paid special attention on social inequality and organized this workshop to find ways to eliminate inequality."


Chief of UNESCO's Section for Research, Policy and Foresight John Crowley delivered the first presentation under the topic ‘Study on Inequality-Correlation of Government Policy’ and Director of the Institute of Sociology of the National University of Mongolia O.Munkhbat made the second presentation ‘Current state and trend of social inequality in Mongolia’.


Furthermore, scholars and researchers made presentations ‘Studies on inequality, ideology and knowing’, ‘Cooperation for reducing social inequality in Mongolia’.


The 3-day seminar is being jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Parliament, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, UNESCO Sector for Social and Human Sciences and Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO.
