Subregional Capacity Development Workshop with UN-ESCAP held

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific’s (UN-ESCAP) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Disaster Risk Reduction Division, together with Transport Division and ESCAP’s North-East Asia Sub-regional Office, and the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLLDC) jointly organized the ‘Sub-regional Workshop on ICT Co-deployment along Transport Infrastructure in East and North East Asia Sub-region’ in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 20 November.
The workshop commenced with opening remarks from Director of Operations of ITTLLDC Mr. Dulguun Damdin-Od and Economic Affairs Officer of ESCAP Ms. Ma Fideles Sadicon.
The objectives of the workshop are to discuss the policy implications and share experience of national and cross-border infrastructure co-deployment accumulated by member states in East and North East Asia; to increase awareness and knowledge of member countries about opportunities and challenges for national and cross-border infrastructure co-deployment; to facilitate constructive dialogues between government officials responsible for ICT and Transport respectively on the relevant national and regional legislative and regulatory framework with regard to co-deployment.
The meeting was attended by government officials from relevant Ministries and Agencies involved with developing 1) ICT connectivity and 2) transport infrastructure of selected ESCAP member countries in the sub-region, namely, China, Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea and Russian Federation. Relevant experts and resource persons have also been invited.
