Snowfall and cold temperatures expected for the Lunar New Year

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The National Agency of Meteorology and Environment has issued a warning for blizzards in the western region today and tomorrow. Snowfall and strong winds are expected in the western parts of the country tonight and tomorrow, and in the eastern region on February 11. 

 

Snowfall and blizzards are expected in most parts of central aimags and northern parts of eastern aimags on February 11, in the northern region on February 12, in southern parts of western aimags and in some parts of Gobi aimags on February 13, and in some parts of the country on February 14. 

 

Wind speed will reach 18-20 m/sec in most parts of the country on February 11 and 12, and reach 12-14 m/sec in some parts of the country on February 13 and 14. 

 

With temperatures dropping from February 11, in the depression of Uvs lake and Darkhad, near Khurenbelchir, in the head of Zavkhan river, and in the basins of Ider, Tes, and Baidrag rivers, the temperature will range from -33 to -38 degrees Celsius during the night, and -21 to -26 during the day.

 

In the mountainous areas of Khangai, Khuvsgul, and Khentei, in the basins of Orkhon, Kharaa, Yuruu, Kherlen, Onon, Ulz, and Khalkh rivers, the temperature will be -26 to -31 during the night, and -15 to -20 during the day.

 

In regions of the country with little snow, the night-time temperature will be -10 to -15 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperature will be 0 to -5 degrees Celsius.

 

In other areas, temperatures are expected to be -18 to -23 during the night, and -7 to -12 during the day.
