Northern Region to be Developed Based on Orkhon, Bulgan, and Khuvsgul Aimags

Ulaanbaatar, February 2, 2024. /MONTSAME/. Regional Development-Mongolian Economic Forum is taking place today for the second day. At the Forum, the drafts on the Regional Development Concept of Mongolia and amendments to relevant laws were presented, and the proposals and suggestions of representatives of the Government, authorities of aimags, and the capital city and related organizations were discussed.


The new draft of the Regional Development Concept suggests dividing Mongolia into six regions: Gobi, Khangai, Eastern, Western, Central, and Northern, while it has four regional divisions as stated in the 2021 Regional Development Concept.


The northern region will be developed based on Orkhon, Bulgan, and Khuvsgul aimags, as recommended by scholars and local residents, noted Minister of Environment and Tourism B. Bat-Erdene.


The development priorities of the Northern Region will be as follows:

Heavy industrial complex to be developed in Orkhon aimag,

• Development of smart agriculture in Bulgan aimag,

• Khuvsgul aiamg to become a tourist area,

Light industries based on agricultural resources to be developed in Orkhon aimag.



Public employees of aimags, and the capital city, managers of locally owned enterprises, representatives of local self-governing organizations, political parties, coalitions, professional associations, civil society and private sector organizations have taken part in the Forum.


Major works carried out within the framework of the previous Regional Development policy include the creation of energy sources and the construction of a vertical road network.
