One billion Togrog finance settled for live transplants

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the scope of his authority, the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Mr S.Batbold settled issue of financing the MNT 1.0 billion required for the necessary equipment for liver transplant operations at the National Oncology Center. On October 12, S.Batbold and director of the oncology center L.Tumurbaatar signed a Memorandum of Understanding thereon.

The National Oncology Center intends to conduct the first ever liver transplant surgery in Mongolia on the threshold of the coming year. “The next actions of our cooperation must aim at alleviating the load of the oncology center through opening diagnostic departments at the local family health centers, improving early detection of liver cancer and raising people’s awareness of hepatic diseases”, said the Mayor.

Dr L.Tumurbaatar said: “Liver cancer constitutes 40 percent of all cancer cases, and claims most lives after cardiovascular diseases. Over 70 percent of the diagnoses are detected in the chronic stage. Early detection of liver diseases and building capacity of local health centers are supported by the Whole Liver Mongolia program”. He thanked the UB City administration for making strategic investment in protecting the wellbeing of Mongolians.
