Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia’s very first satellite ‘Mazaalai’ will be sent to space with “SpaceX Falcon 9” rocket at Kennedy Space Center, Florida on June 2 at 5:50AM /Ulaanbaatar Time/.

Aside from Mongolia, satellites of Japan, Nigeria, Ghana and Bangladesh will be delivered into space on this day. Three young Mongolian students pursuing doctorate degree at the Kyushu Institute of Technology finished building this miniature satellite on January 1, 2017. From determining the satellite’s roles to designing, developing and experimenting the satellite was all done by the students.

The satellite was made possible thanks to the international BIRDS project, made between National University of Mongolia and Japan’s Kyushu Institute of Technology. The project, which is being implemented under the auspices of UNESCO and Japanese Government, is aimed at supporting developing countries with no satellite to build and launch their first satellite.
