Ambassador G.Batsukh receives Canada 150 commemorative pin

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The first Mongolian Ambassador to Canada Batsukh Galsan has been bestowed with an honorary pin commemorating the 150th anniversary of Canada.
Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia Ed Jager presented the commemorative pin today at a ceremony held in front of ‘King of the Altai’ argali sheep statue, on the northwest side of the Parliament House.
The 150th anniversary of Confederation of Canada fell on July 1, and as part of celebration, the pin is being conferred upon ‘friends of Canada’. Ambassador Batsukh thus became the first Mongolian recipient of the pin, made of ammolite from the Rocky Mountains of North America.
“Ambassador Batsukh has been a long time friend of Canada”, remarked Ambassador Jager. His tenure from 2001 to 2005 was marked by a number of important events in bilateral relationship including mutual high level visits.
The location for this presentation was chosen due to the fact that the argali sheep statue is an initiative of Ambassador Batsukh who is now the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oyu Tolgoi LLC. The 4 meters tall monument was sculpted by a Canadian artist to be gifted to Mongolia in 2006, in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the Great Mongol Empire.
Ambassador Batsukh expressed his gratitude, and said he was honored to serve as the first resident Ambassador of Mongolia to Canada. “Canada has become a twin across the ocean for Mongolia”, he said, pointing out how ‘bilateral relations have been through ups and downs, but mostly ups’.
Highlighting the significance of the statue, he said, “This statue may be the only wildlife piece of art in Mongolia that was created across the ocean”. “On the other hand, it represents a symbol of friendship between Mongolia and Canada”, he noted. He emphasized that both Mongolia and Canada are famous for their wildlife.
“Canada has a very special place in my heart”, Ambassador Batsukh closed his speech, expressing his commitment to Canada.
