30 percent of territory under high risk of dzud

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment anticipates high dzud risk in 30 percent of the territory of Mongolia and a medium risk in 30 percent.
The Information and Research Institute organized a forum themed ‘Governance of Animal Husbandry Sector in Mongolia and Dzud Risks’ on November 23.
The Institute also reported on possibility of extreme low temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to -50 degrees Celsius at times. According to B.Erdenetsetseg, Head of Agrometeorology Section of the Institute, a final forecast on the state of this winter will be available in two weeks.
The forum engaged authorities of the Institute and herders representing 21 provinces of Mongolia, who highlighted possible difficulties in getting through winter and the spring due to low pasture carrying capacity caused by drought in most parts of the country over the summer.
