Foreign tourists experience authentic felt making tradition

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In Khujirt soum of Uvurkhangai aimag, a felt making festival took place for the seventh year, attracting more than 1000 local and foreign tourists. The event was aimed at promoting the felt and felt making tradition, one of the traditional heritage and practices of the Mongolian people, and creating new artifacts combining the traditional way of felt making with modern approaches and attracting tourists.
The viewers gathered for the festival were able to watch and participate in numerous activities and contests from felt making, sheep-wool shearing, yarn spinning, felt craft making to dairy product production. Foreign tourists travelling in Mongolia were delighted that they were given opportunity to try hands-on experience with the Mongolian culture. Also, a fair of felt arts and products was organized during the event with a view to support local residents.
