Studies on Nicholas Roerich and his works to be enhanced

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On August 16, a second international conference "Roerichs and Mongolia” started at the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum. Aimed at enhancing studies of renowned Russian painter, traveler and scholar of Mongolian studies Nicholas Roerich, the conference is being organized under the theme “Tengerism and Cosmism” by the Roerich's Shambhala Museum in Ulaanbaatar and the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum in cooperation with the Government of Mongolia, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Russia in Ulaanbaatar and Roerich Family Museum Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. The conference has brought together scholars more than 20 countries who present their studies for discussion.
During the conference, a presentation about a chemical analysis of painting “Red Hero” by Nicholas Roerich, who gifted his own painting to the Mongolian Prime Minister B.Tserendorj in 1927 will be delivered. Nicholas Roerich painted it after his expedition throughout Mongolia and it is believed that the painting is a depiction of symbolization of the Shambhala King Rigden Drakpo coming to Mongolia and bringing the era of the Shambhala to Mongolia giving peace and happiness to its people.
Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia U.Enkhtuvshin attended the conference, opening the conference and announced that the Government of Mongolia resolved to provide financial support for the Roerich's Shambhala Museum and handed over the original of the Roerich’s “Red Hero” painting to the Roerich's Shambhala Museum. In his opening remarks, Deputy PM U.Enkhtuvshin noted “Mongolian people very well know that the history and natural landscapes of Mongolia are important elements of depiction in the works of Nicholas Roerich. We also deeply respect his “Red Hero” painting, one of the greatest works to portray the bright future of Mongolia and its people, considering its symbolic delineation.
The conference wraps up on August 18.
