Rice cultivation in Mongolia for the first time

/MONTSAME/. For
the first time Mongolia has cultivated white rice, having first crop of 10
tons. ‘Jimex’
company in Bayankhongor aimag has planted white rice on two hectares of land and
harvested its first crop, reports Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light
Industry Z.Mendsaikhan.
“The amount of the crop, harvested in the result of ten-year efforts
might seem low. However, biggest achievement is that it has proven the possibility of growing rice in Mongolia and the farmers managed to domesticate and adopt technology of white rice cultivation as a result of
tireless efforts ” he
added.
The rice harvested by ‘Jimex’ company will be delivered to consumers under the name “Khusug”. In addition, rice cultivation is being experimented in Uvurkhangai and Selenge aimags.
