Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On February 8, Minister of Education and Science L. Enkh-Amgalan, accompanied by the Ambassador of Germany to Mongolia Jörn Rosenberg, visited the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) in Nalaikh.

During the visit, a joint meeting was organized with the attendance of officials of the Ministry of Education and Science and representatives of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the KfW Development Bank.

Founded in 2013, the GMIT is responding to the demand for highly qualified engineers in the Mongolian natural resources sector. Through close cooperation with German partner universities, GMIT transfers international scientific expertise and modern academic standards to Mongolia. At the same time, through its practice-oriented engineering education, the university provides an impetus to better interlink the educational sector and the economy.

During the meeting, GMIT Rector Prof. B. Battsengel gave a detailed presentation, particularly the past and present achievements of the binational university. Moreover,  regarding the current amendment of the Higher Education Law, the Rector stressed the need of the preservation of the current GMIT legal status quo as a state-owned university.

Organization of the GMIT also serves as a role model and ensuring its management structure meets the principles of modern university management and institutional autonomy.

Minister L.Enkh-Amgalan and Ambassador Rosenberg emphasized the significance of close collaboration with Mongolian enterprises when implementing GMIT research projects for  the financial sustainability of the university. While getting acquainted with the university campus, Minister L.Enkh-Amgalan and Ambassador Rosenberg saw the construction process of university campus extension, which is financed by a soft loan in the amount of EUR 7 million from the German government.
