Ulaanbaatar, July 8, 2024 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh, the Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Qu Dongyu, will pay an official visit to Mongolia on July 10-12, 2024.
It marks Dr. Qu Dongyu's first visit to Mongolia since assuming the role of Director-General of the FAO and aims at strengthening cooperation in the food and agriculture sector. During the Visit, the Director-General will meet the Head of State of Mongolia, the Prime Minister, as well as some ministers, to discuss enhancing cooperation between Mongolia and FAO in creating a resilient, sustainable food and agriculture system capable of overcoming risks.
Mongolia joined FAO in 1973. Initially, the FAO representative in Beijing was in charge of Mongolia's affairs, but in 2018, a dedicated resident representative was appointed for Mongolia. Over the years, the cooperation between Mongolia and FAO has expanded, establishing a reliable partnership. FAO supports the implementation of science-based policies, innovation, and technology in Mongolia's food, agriculture, and environment sectors. Numerous projects and programs implemented by FAO have positively impacted the livelihoods and well-being of Mongolians, particularly in the food and agriculture sectors, which are highly dependent on weather, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry.
