“Khuree” Maternity Hospital Doubles Its Capacity
SocietyUlaanbaatar, February 5, 2025 /MONTSAME/ On February 4, 2025, Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, Мembers of the Government, the Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Nyambaatar Khishgee, and other officials visited the “Khuree” Maternity Hospital to get acquainted with the work progress.
To improve
the health care services and increase accessibility, the expansion of the Khuree Maternity Hospital started in 2022 and a new nine-story building was put into
operation last November. With 180 additional beds, the hospital’s capacity has doubled, providing comprehensive obstetric, gynecological,
and neonatal care services to about 80,000 women and newborns annually.
The Government increased investment in the health sector in 2021-2024, investing a total
of MNT 954 billion, equivalent to the past 10 years. Particularly, a
total of MNT 292 billion was invested in constructing new buildings for the
“Urguu” and “Khuree” Maternity Hospitals and major renovation of the National
Center for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia.
Moreover, the Government has also launched the construction of the Organ
Transplant Center in 2024. With an investment of MNT 140 billion, an eight-story
building with 120 beds, 15 operating rooms, and an imaging center will be completed
in two years.
The Prime
Minister emphasized that in total, 31 hospitals will be put into operation
nationwide in 2025 with funding from the State Budget.
Mayor Nyambaatar said, “The Capital City will have 14 cities [districts] when the Law on the Legal Status of Cities and Villages comes into effect in 2026. The old building of the “Khuree” Maternity Hospital will be fortified and expanded to become a general hospital in Sukhbaatar city. The purchase of modern equipment required for the “Khuree” Maternity Hospital will be funded by the capital's budget. In the future, we will reorganize 14 general hospitals in the Capital City and allocate necessary investments in the capital city’s budget. In addition, we are providing modern equipment to medical institutions in stages.”
As part of improving public health care services, the early health screening and diagnosis campaign is ongoing nationwide according to the Government decision after the pandemic. As of 2024, 1.5 million people had been covered, accounting for 44 percent of the total population. This preventive campaign will be updated to “Early Detection 2.0” and progress by introducing modern technological advances and artificial intelligence.
The “Khuree” Maternity Hospital has been operating since 1959 and over 500 thousand newborns were delivered there.
