Ulaanbaatar, November 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Mongolia, Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, attended the High-Level Segment of the 30th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UNFCCC, held in Belem, Federative Republic of Brazil, on November 7, 2025.

Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav emphasized that Mongolia has consistently supported the international community’s proposals and initiatives aimed at combating climate change, strengthening adaptation and resilience, and enhancing ecosystem balance. He reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Agreement, reiterating Mongolia’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 30 percent by 2035.

State Secretary Munkhtushig also highlighted Mongolia’s ongoing measures to address climate change and desertification, and invited all countries to actively participate in the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17), which Mongolia is preparing to host in Ulaanbaatar in 2026.

Participants at the Belem High-Level Meeting called on countries to practically implement the commitments they have previously undertaken in the fight against climate change. They warned that if global greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced, the average global temperature increase will exceed 1.5°C, which would have severe consequences for the world’s ecosystems as well as the social and economic sectors of countries.

According to the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, global greenhouse gas emissions have reached their highest level in the last 800,000 years, and the period between 2015 and 2025 has been recorded as the hottest years in the 176-year history of instrumental measurements.
