Chair of Standing Committee on Legal Affairs MP S.Byambatsogt, head of Democratic Party caucus at the State Great Hural MP D.Ganbat handed a draft resolution on “Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of a political party in Mongolia” to Speaker of the State Great Hural G.Zandanshatar. The Mongolian People's Party, the first political party in Mongolia, was established on March 1, 1921.

Parliament adopts amendments to Banking Law
At its plenary session held on January 28, 2021, State Great Khural, parliament of Mongolia, approved amendments to the Banking Law of Mongolia. 90.9 percent of 55 members present at the meeting of the parliament’s autumn session voted in favor of the changes to the Banking Law.

AquaRating certification awarded to Ulaanbaatar Water Supply, Sewerage Authority
As part of the Utility Operations Sub-activity of the Bulk Water Supply Project under the Mongolian Water Compact, operations of Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (USUG) and Ulaanbaatar Housing and Public Utilities Authority (OSNAAUG) was evaluated by the AquaRating. It is an international assessment and benchmarking tool for utility operations developed by the International Water Association (IWA).

President’s two veto provisions on Administrative, Territorial Units Law accepted
On December 24, 2020, the State Great Khural, Mongolian parliament approved the Law on Administrative and Territorial Units and their Governance.  On January 22, 2021, President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga placed a line-item veto on a total of 27 articles and provisions of the Law on Administrative and Territorial Units and their Governance and another two articles and provisions of the accompanying amendments to the Budget Law.

Parliament overrides President’s vetoes on Laws on Anti-Corruption and Courts
At its plenary session held on January 28, the State Great Khural of Mongolia rejected a line-item veto imposed by President of Mongolia Battulga Khaltmaa on the Law against Corruption, adopted on December 30, 2020. The proposal to reject the veto has been forwarded by the parliament’s standing committees to the parliament.

Parliament's standing committee supports President’s proposal to appoint Oyun-Erdene as PM
In the Article 28.1 of the Law on Session Procedures of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, it states that the Standing Committee on State Structure shall discuss the nominee for Prime Minister within 3 working days after the President of Mongolia submits his proposal to the State Great Hural in accordance with Article 39.2 of the Constitution of Mongolia.

On January 26, the parliamentary standing committee on economy discussed an additional financing agreement between Mongolia and the International Development Association (IDA) on COVID-19 prevention, response and preparedness project in Mongolia.
