Latest COVID-19 Household Response Phone Survey results released
Mongolia has taken early and decisive measures to prevent the inflow and outbreak of COVID-19. Despite the limited cases confirmed in Mongolia compared to other countries in the region, the household-level shocks caused by COVID-19 can be long-lasting and disproportionally hit the poor and vulnerable the hardest, creating an urgent need for timely data collection to help monitoring and mitigating the socio-economic impacts of the shock.

Mongolia’s Stock Exchange celebrates 30th anniversary
January 18, 2021 marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Stock Exchange and the stock market in Mongolia. Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh yesterday visited the Mongolian Stock Exchange and its exhibition hall displaying the history of Mongolian’s stock market, and rang the market opening bell on the occasion of the anniversary.

Revised Law on Courts aims to ensure fair judicial system
On January 15, State Great Khural, Mongolian parliament, adopted the revised Law on Courts at its plenary session. 50 members out of 52 parliament members present at the session voted in favor of approving the revised bill, which was submitted by the government in April 2020.

At the Standing Committee meeting on State Structures held on January 12th, the first discussion on amendments to the Law on Public Service submitted together with the Law on Labor was conducted and agreed to introduce the meeting summary at the Standing Committee on Social Policy. Thereafter, a working group was established to process a revised version of the Law on the President of Mongolia.

EU-funded project launches to protect vulnerable population from COVID-19
In partnership with the World Vision, European Union launched an 18-month, €1,000,000 project to contribute to limiting the spread of COVID-19 and reduce its negative impact on the vulnerable population in Mongolia, particularly mothers, children, and people under medical observation.

Oyu Tolgoi LLC provides information on its tax payments
On 22 December 2020, Oyu Tolgoi LLC received a Tax Assessment claim for approximately US$228 million from the Mongolian Tax Authority (MTA). This Assessment relates to an audit of taxes paid by Oyu Tolgoi LLC between 2016 and 2018. The MTA has also sought to reduce Oyu Tolgoi’s carried-forward tax losses by around US$1.5 billion.
