Manufacturers to be in charge of withdrawal of used packages
Over the past years, the amount of solid waste in the country has increased by 500 thousand tons a year due to population growth, urbanization and industrialization. For example, 820 thousand tons of solid waste were produced in 2009, while it tripled by 2014 reaching 2.4 million tons a year.   According to a JICA survey, one citizen of the city produces 0,535-0.900 kg waste a day. 75 per cent of total waste is collected by the capital city waste maintenance company and 15 per cent is transported by individuals and organizations with their trucks and 5-10 per cent of waste is left without being transported.

National Museum of Mongolia to celebrate Family Day with free admission for families
The International Day of Families is observed on May 15 every year. On the occasion of this day, the National Museum of Mongolia will offer free admission throughout the day for anyone visiting the museum with their families.

Revised law on Offence approved
Parliament approved a revised law on Offence during yesterday’s plenary session. The revised law on Offence regulates over 220 types of offences. The law has been revised to improve the current law by re-classifying some types of offences, clarifying, adding and changing some provisions, which were missed, unclear and duplicated.

UNESCO to provide policy support for Mongolian economy
J.Batsuuri, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports received Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Khan, the Director of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Jakarta and Regional Bureau for Science in Asia and the Pacific. Prof. Dr. Shahbaz was the Chief of Section on Sustainable Water Resources Development and Management at UNESCO, Paris in 2008. Dr. Shahbaz was appointed as the Deputy Director and Senior Program Specialist at the UNESCO Office in Jakarta in 2012. Since 215, he has been entrusted with the Officer-in-Charge functions of the UNESCO Office in Jakarta.

Auto road law revised
Revised law on Auto Road was approved by Parliament yesterday, May 11. The new law indicated that quality guaranteed period for newly built road and road facilities would be three years in charge of the executed legal entity as well as technical and technology controller each.

Two-time world champion wrestler S.Battsetseg wins Asian Championships 2017
Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg, two-time World Wrestling Champion, Olympic Bronze medalist, won a gold medal of the 2017 Senior Asian Free style Wrestling Championship for the first time. The event is taking place from May 10 to 14 in New Delhi, India.

Criminal Code amendments approved
The parliament approved amendments to the Criminal Code with the support of 76.9 per cent during today’s plenary session, The Government submitted the bill on December 23, 2016. The new Criminal Code has reduced a number of criminal sanctions and sentencing provisions to 30, while it was over 80.

Minister of Mining meets new CEO of Oyu Tolgoi
On May 10, Ts.Dashdorj, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry of Mongolia received newly-appointed CEO of Oyu Tolgoi LLC Armando Torres. After giving information about the ongoing and future works and actions of the Oyu Tolgoi LLC, CEO Armando Torres introduced that the Oyu Tolgoi Company is working to support national suppliers, improve their communications of those domestic suppliers, simplify procurement activities and on issues on how to establish promote manufacturing.

Innovation development policy and strategy discussed
National Forum on Innovation was held on May 10 at the State House. The event is a part of  Mongolian Innovation Week-2017, which is being been organized by The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Ulaanbaatar City Department of Industry and Innovation, Mongolian Foundation for Science and Technology and the Mongolia University of Science and Technology on May 8 to 14.

Development Road Program backed
On May 10, the cabinet approved the Development Road Program, which will aim at intensifying the developments in sectors of road, transport, energy, communication, mining, industry and tourism, connecting Mongolia with other countries by better infrastructure, eliminating trade barriers and reducing transport costs of goods.

IDA funding programme to be submitted for immediate discussion
General Funding Program, signed by the Government of Mongolia, World Bank and the International Development Association, was discussed by the cabinet on May 10. If backed by parliament, IDA will open line of soft-term credit of USD 79 million, which was allotted for Mongolia for 2015-2017.

Investment management company to be established
During its regular meeting on May 10, Wednesday, the Cabinet assigned Chairman of Board of Development Bank to establish and adopt the regulations for a subsidiary under the bank, designated to generate investment funds which will finance projects augmenting economic growth.

Agreement on Indian government loan to be submitted for immediate parliamentary discussion
The cabinet discussed the bill of ratification of General Agreement on Credit Line of USD 1.0 billion between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the Republic of India, and resolved to recommend the parliament to run immediate discussion on this matter.

During its regular meeting on May 10, Wednesday, the Cabinet discussed and approved a draft revision to Law on Public Opinion Polling. The draft bill will be submitted to Parliament, reflecting the suggestions made by Cabinet members.

Cabinet approves draft agreements on infrastructure development
During its regular meeting on May 10, Wednesday, the Cabinet discussed and approved draft special loan agreements on projects ‘Construction of steel-concrete bridges on Tuul River in Bayanzurkh and Sonsgolon’ and ‘Construction of Ulaanbaatar-Mandalgobi electricity transmission network and electrical substation’ to be established by the Ministry of Finance and Chinese Export-Import Bank.

Member of Parliament and Minister of Justice and Home Affairs S.Byambatsogt has paid a visit to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of People’s Republic of China. MCC compact under preparation for approval in 2018
A delegation from the U.S. government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) visited Mongolia on May 08-09 and discussed with Mongolian relevant officials on progress in developing an MCC compact with the government of Mongolia to prepare for approval in 2018. During their visit, the U.S. delegation led by Fatema Z. Sumar, Regional Deputy Vice President for Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America, met with senior Mongolian government officials – including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Minister of Environment and Tourism D.Oyunkhorol, Deputy Minister of Finance Kh.Bulgantuya, and Ulaanbaatar City Mayor S. Batbold.

National disaster risk reduction council to be established
Policy discussion under the theme ‘Reform of Disaster Risk Management System of Mongolia’ took place under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia in the State House on May 9. In his speech at the discussion, Deputy  PM U.Khurelsukh pointed out that “In accordance with the revised law on disaster protection, today's event is aimed at renovating disaster risk management system and discussing relevant issues at a policy level”. "Our primary goal is to pay attention to ensure sustainable development of Mongolia by preventing any disasters and accidents, eliminating possible damages and loss based on the UN recommendations".
