Model hospital building to be constructed by Austrian Vamed Engineering
A new model hospital building with 150-200 beds will be constructed in Songinokhairkhan district by Vamed Engineering company of Austria. The company won the bid of construction and equipment supply of the hospital, which will be built within the Fourth Health Sector Development project. Today, the Ministry of Health established a contract with the Vamed Engineering Company.

Observation mission for presidential election includes 20 observers from 12 countries
On May 24, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) formally opened a limited election observation mission for the presidential election in Mongolia, which is expected on June 26. The mission’s deployment follows an official invitation from the Mongolian Government.

Regional Cooperative Agreement on Nuclear Science backed
The cabinet of ministers approved the 2017 Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific on May 24. The agreement’s main purpose is facilitating the possibilities for exchange of technologies, human resource capacity-building, determining need for nuclear technology, introducing some areas to nuclear technology, promoting sustainable development and conducting joint studies.

AN-2 biplane to be built in Mongolia
Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia is holding an open day at the central square on May 24-25. The event will be presenting the upcoming projects and programs, as well as some new advanced technologies in road, air and railway transport sectors. At the event, new vehicle registration plates could be issued while the public transportation card “U-Money” will be sold.

IMF approves Financial Arrangement for Mongolia
On May 24, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund approved a three-year extended arrangement under Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Mongolia in a total amount of about USD434.3 million to support the country’s economic reform program. Other financing partners, including the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, Japan, and Korea, have also committed to provide budgetary and project support, and the People’s Bank of China has agreed to extend its swap line with the Bank of Mongolia. In sum, the total financing package amounts to about USD5.5 billion. The Board’s approval of the arrangement enables the immediate disbursement of an amount equivalent to about USD38.6 million. The Executive Board had postponed its meeting on April 28 due to a parliamentary resolution clause on currency transmission of large-scale projects through Mongolian banks. Therefore on May 05, the parliament cancelled the resolution clause.

On May 24, Mongolia marked 'Europe Day' which is officially celebrated internationally on May 9. A reception was hosted by EU Ambassador to Mongolia Hans Dietmar Schweisgut who is paying a two-day visit to Mongolia on May 23-25 from Beijing, China.

State hospital working to reduce number of patients going abroad for medical care
The State Third Hospital has reduced the number of untreatable diseases in Mongolia by offering treatment for arrhythmia and latest versions of cerebral surgeries. On May 24, State Secretary for Health D.Ochirbat visited the hospital. He got acquainted with the operations of the hospital, workload for physicians and various departments and listened to the workers and patients expressing their opinions on problems facing Mongolia’s health sector nowadays, and gave some directions.

World Bank Country Manager for Mongolia James Anderson and Ulaanbaatar city Deputy Mayor P.Bayarkhuu signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly strengthen the capital investment planning process of Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, and the financial sustainability of the city’s public transport sector on May 23.

Government debt amounts to MNT20 trillion, below the threshold
As of the first quarter of this year, the Government debt is around MNT20 trillion, comprised of foreign debt of MNT13 trillion, internal debt of MNT5 trillion and Government guaranteed outstanding loan of MNT1 trillion. At the end of 2016, the Government debt totaled to MNT22 trillion, including foreign debt of MNT12 trillion, domestic debt of MNT6 trillion and Government guaranteed loan of MNT3 trillion.

Mongolia-Russia consular consultative meeting takes place
On May 22, the fifteenth consular consultative meeting between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Russia took place in Ulaanbaatar. At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues concerning consular affairs and protection of citizens’ rights and other issues of bilateral cooperation. The consular consultation was headed by Ya.Ariunbold, Director of Consular Department of Mongolian Foreign Ministry and N.M.Latipov, Vice Director of Consular Department of Russian Foreign Ministry.

Mazaalai miniature satellite to be launched in June
Mongolia’s very first satellite ‘Mazaalai’ will be sent to space with “SpaceX Falcon 9” rocket at Kennedy Space Center, Florida on June 2 at 5:50AM /Ulaanbaatar Time/. Aside from Mongolia, satellites of Japan, Nigeria, Ghana and Bangladesh will be delivered into space on this day. Three young Mongolian students pursuing doctorate degree at the Kyushu Institute of Technology finished building this miniature satellite on January 1, 2017. From determining the satellite’s roles to designing, developing and experimenting the satellite was all done by the students.

UNECE launches environmental performance review of Mongolia
The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Mongolia kicked off on 22 May 2017, with a field mission beginning in Ulaanbaatar. Fifteen experts from different countries and the United Nations secretariat will work in Mongolia for 10 days to review the country’s progress in improving environmental policies over the past three decades.

Two resolutions sponsored by Mongolia adopted by ESCAP 73rd session
The 73rd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) convened from 15 to 19 May 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. Delegations from 45 member-states of the Commission attended the session, which was held under the theme of the “Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Energy” and discussed the issues related to enhancing cooperation on inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in the region.
