Parliament spring session convenes


The spring plenary session of Parliament convened today with remarks delivered by Speaker M.Enkhbold and President Kh.Battulga.

In his opening speech, Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold emphasized the need to move the large-scale projects forward saying “the economy is recovering, and the price of copper and coal, main export products, has increased. We have to seize this opportunity.” The Speaker expressed the Parliament’s readiness to address such issues, calling for activation of the projects, including the oil refinery, during the spring session.

The Speaker addressed the transparency, fairness and independence of law enforcement organizations and corresponding bodies on corruption and other issues. “The politicization of the Oyu Tolgoi project may have negative impacts on Mongolia’s interest. The matter should be resolved within the frame of law.”

The Speaker also called for immediate resolution of the controversies surrounding the Erdenet Mining Corporation.

As such, the Parliament has convened its plenary session with a number of bills and resolutions on agenda, including on the 2019 State Budget statement; the 2020-2021 State Budget assumption; the 2017 Budget performance; the 2017 Government financial report; the implementation of the 2017 General Guidelines on Social and Economic Development of Mongolia; and the 2019 General Guidelines on Social and Economic Development of Mongolia.
