Ulaanbaatar, August 5, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On August 4, 2024, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital arrived in Mongolia for the 9th time at the invitation of the Ministry of Health of Mongolia.

Until August 22, 2024, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, temporarily located at Buyant Ukhaa International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, will conduct training for ophthalmologists, nurses, anesthetists, and medical device engineers from the National Centre for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia, the Third State Central Hospital of Mongolia, and rural medical institutions of the country.

With the support of sponsors Alcon Foundation, FedEx, and OMEGA, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital aims at improving the skills of ophthalmologists and other medical professionals,  eye care services at partner hospitals, and raising public awareness about eye health.

The renowned Flying Eye Hospital is the world's only ophthalmic teaching hospital onboard an aircraft MD-10.

The Hospital has visited Mongolia eight times since its inaugural visit in 1989, with the most recent trip in 2018. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, physical visits were not possible, but four online courses were conducted instead.

Since 2014, Orbis International has successfully implemented projects to improve children's eye care services in Mongolia and opened its branch "Orbis Mongolia" in 2021, making a substantial contribution to the eye care field.

Country Director in Mongolia for Orbis International Chimgee Chuluunkhuu said, “Orbis International aims at enhancing the capabilities of a country's medical professionals and improving the overall healthcare system. I am delighted that the Flying Eye Hospital project is empowering not only ophthalmologists but also a wide range of eye care professionals, including anesthetists, nurses, and medical equipment engineers.”
