Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pays Courtesy Call on Prime Minister of Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, August 13, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai received Alexander Alexandrovich Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, on August 12, 2024. Minister Kozlov also serves as the head of the Russian delegation for the Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.


During the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the active development of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in areas such as politics, economics, education, culture, and humanitarian relations.


Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene highlighted the successful conduct of Mongolia’s parliamentary elections in June 2024. The Premier emphasized that the formation of the new Government by the Mongolian People's Party, which won the majority seats in the parliament, jointly with the Democratic Party, and the National Labor Party (HUN), is essential for bolstering the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and Russia, as well as for maintaining the momentum of bilateral cooperation.


The two sides also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing negotiations to finalize and sign the Agreement on Trade of Oil and Oil Products between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the Russian Federation in the near future.


At the meeting the parties also discussed several key issues, including establishing a Temporary Free Trade Agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union by December 2024, accelerating the expansion and modernization of the Third Thermal Power Plant (TPP-3), forming a joint research group of Mongolian and Russian experts to implement the Eg River Hydropower Plant Project, setting quotas for Mongolian students to study in Russia, and identifying priority professions needed for development.


Additionally, the parties agreed to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in the fields of mining, energy, and transportation, with a shared goal of achieving tangible results in trade and economic collaboration.
