President Issues Decree to Support Mongolian History Studies

Ulaanbaatar, November 4, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On National Pride Day, November 2, 2024, the 862nd anniversary of the birth of Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa issued the Decree “On Supporting the Study of Mongolian History.”


The Decree's primary goal is to intensify the research on Mongolian history, including the founding of the Mongol Nation, statehood traditions, heritages of nomadic civilization, and the contributions of the Mongols to the history of the world, which would strengthen national unity, values, and independence. The Decree was announced by Mr. Zolbayar Ulziibayar, Spokesperson and Head of the Media and Communications Department of the Office of the President. Following the announcement, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai signed the Decree.


To advance the study, dissemination, and global promotion of Mongolian history, President Khurelsukh has directed the Government of Mongolia to take the following actions:


Support comprehensive Mongolian historical research and international Mongol Studies, including policies for training professional historians.

Compile a 30-volume series detailing Mongolian history from ancient to modern times, to be translated and distributed widely.

Intensify research on Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan and the Mongol Empire, emphasizing Mongolia’s unique contributions to global prosperity.

Safeguard Mongolian history and biographical records of historical figures from distortion.

Enhance public awareness of history through targeted policies and initiatives.


President Khurelsukh also called on citizens to actively participate in preserving, studying, and passing on the nation’s history and heritage to future generations.


In support of Mongolian history studies, President Khurelsukh had previously initiated a comprehensive annotated edition of "The Secret History of the Mongols," a treasured historical source, involving experts from diverse fields. Additionally, the official English translation of "The Secret History of the Mongols" has been made publicly accessible to be preserved in international libraries.


The Working Group is led by Brigadier General Davaadorj Begz, a National Security Council Analyst. President Khurelsukh extended his gratitude to the Working Group and wished them continued success in their scholarly pursuits.
