Mongolian Sumo Wrestlers Win Four Medals at Sumo World Championships 2025

Ulaanbaatar, September 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 26th Sumo World Championships concluded in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand, with athletes from over 50 countries competing.
Mongolian wrestlers claimed two gold and two bronze medals. In the -115 kg category, Badral Baasandorj from Dornogobi aimag secured his fourth world championship title, becoming the first wrestler to win four times at the sumo world stage. He also holds the title of Aimags’ Arslan (lion of the aimag) in Mongolian wrestling.
In the -100 kg division, E. Ganbold from Uvs aimag triumphed to earn his first-ever world championship gold medal. With these victories, Mongolia’s national anthem was played twice in Bangkok.
Additionally, Naranbayar Khangai in the +115 kg category and B. Bayarbold in the open-weight division each won bronze medals, further raising Mongolia’s flag on the global stage.
